The Opium Wars

The British opium trade in China started the world’s very first drug war, it was in the 19Th century. It was called the Opium War, many people also refer to it as the Anglo-Chinese War. Opium is made from the juice of poppy seedpods, and used to produce heroin.The opium came from from the flower called poppies and the British made the Chinese addicted to it so that they could get the Chinese could trade with the British. Opium is used today for many things like morphine, heroine, codeine , mescalin and opium. These substances are some what like sedatives but more like pain relievers. The bad part about them is that they are highly addictive.

It was used fist to treat certain disorders or diseases like dysentery, cholera, as well as diarrhea. Almost 2 million pounds of opium was sold in China each year, opium lowered a large amount of the Chinese population. In the 19th century, 10 percent of the Chinese population was smoking opium. This also affected China's economy, due to the large amount of resources, especially silver, flowing out of the country to pay for the opium. The Opium Wars caused the victimization of China by foreign powers for many years. Until 1949 and the victory of Mao Zedong and communism that the unequal treaties signed between the Chinese government and the foreign power. It was also after 1949 that China took back all the ports, except for Hong Kong. Hong Kong remained a British territory until 1997.

Mountains of the Moon

The movie Mountains of The Moon was about two explorers named Richard Burton and John Speke. They explored Africa to find out what was the source of the Nile river but they didn't know where to look. They faced many obstacles like insects mosquito's, tribes , diseases. They were raided by tribes and many of there men that work for them were killed, that messed they journey.

Speke had an encounter with insects and bugs because he didn't put up his mosquito net when he went to sleep. Also Burton had a spear rip across his face and left a scar across his face. after they found the lake they named it after there queen which was queen Victoria so they called it lake Victoria. The reason why after so many years they didn't change the name because so many tribes live there so the call it something in there land but they cant change the name i think. Europeans were more technology advanced and had more weapons and the Africans were using spears so they were kind of primal to the Europeans. That why they so easily conquered because they were so technologically under advanced.

The Meiji Restoration of Japan

The Meiji restoration speaks for its self basically it was modernized and restored some sort of economic growth.When the Meiji emperor was restored as head of Japan in 1868, the nation was weak military so they were kind of defenseless against other countries or any enemies they had. They were primarily agricultural and had very little technology growing in there country and when they had swords riding on horses other countries had guns and cannons. It was controlled by hundreds of semi-independent feudal lords. The Western empires like USA and Europe had Japan to sign treaties that limited its control over its own trade outside of the country and any crimes outside of the country were not to be trialed in japan but in western powers.

When the Meiji period ended, with the death of the emperor in 1912 japan then started to restore itself. Japan builded a strong navy and army. They also stared to build up technology wise so they stated catching up to everyon else, they had a established Parliament. The education was getting better. P[eople were living better you can say. japan moved from samurais to weapons that were more accurate deadly and better economic trade.

Karl Marx and Communisim

Karl Marx was in the way the father of Communism he invented the ideas and the reason he did so it could benefit mankind. Communism is just sharing everything right down the middle equally with everyone even if you were a highly respected like a doctor or a a huge factory owner you got paid as much as the workers so there is no mistreat to the workers. the way he envisioned it was that if the major corporations couldn't take away the right from the workers so they make all the profits and workers make like pennies a day. that why people made unions but it stated to lose power but when it was created people had major power which was what Karl wanted. The countries stared to use the Communism way to run a country the government had all the power and took advantage of the people , then soon it became corrupt.

The way he wanted Communism to work was to help the workers during the industrial revolution in England. Karl was a philosopher that was a professor in Berlin till he died in 1831. His philosophy idea about the sharing and government controlled all the land really was misused by the countries that used it which really defeated the purpose of his ideas like Russia but they changed, but like Cuba, north Korea and china are still communist countries which aren't the best places to live.

Karl Marx and Industrial Revolution

Karl Marx was a German Jew which changed the whole Russian history.  His father converted to a christian so that he could get a job and support his family so it was hard for him. He studied the Industrial Revolution. He believed that it was the mistreat of adults and kids, which was child labor. The conditions of the factories were harsh and unsafe. He told the people to join together into a revolution. 

He thought of an idea to share everything like money , stuff etc. The property belonged to the government. Which was a good idea to him the way he envisioned it in his mind which was called communism. But when country's took on the Communism it was corrupt and people were all making the same annual pay so even if you were a doctor you made as much as the janitor. Which meant all those years you studied for medical school was for nothing. Many countries were taken over by communists and after a so many years of communism Russia was not no more. 

He died in 1883 and his ideas started many revolutions. He thought that the people could control the revolution so everyone would share some sort of equality but it turned out that people mostly dictators took control of the countries

Nationilism and The Creation of Italy

Nationalism is the right and happiness in your country. It means that making your country a better place no mater what.also that your country is the best in your eyes and you feel proud of it.Nationalism also means that will show your pride.people do many thing for there country. one of the ways is to going to country events or celebrating like 4Th of July in America.

thanks to nationalism there are nations in the world that are independent. Italy was created by nationalist who had been ruled by foreigners. A Italian person named Giuseppe Mazzini created a group called Young Italy. they wanted to make Italy a free nation and not be ruled by nobles and or kings. he failed thought and sent him into exile with his group. While in exile he went to Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. This was the biggest and the most powerful state of Italy. Count Camillo di Cavour was put in charge to conquer the other states. He believed that he was doing this for the kingdom, not Italy. Covour united Italy even though that's not what he wanted to do.

 Before a united Italy there was only city-states. 

Simon Bolivar and The Latin American Revolution

Simon Bolivar was one of the best military leader in history. He was the reason that Latin America revolted against Spain. He thought that the people should have the right to control there own countries. He got the independence of Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru and Bolivia. He was also the most famous revolutionist.

he Born in Venezuela,he was given a good education. he went to London to gain support and help to help the people of south America to be free. his time in London he also learned the English government and the laws. he also learned the American government on his journey back to south America. He used his knowledge of the government to get the independence of Venezuela.

He was the great savior of Latin America people say and the named Bolivia after him as a contribute.

The French Revolution

In France there were three classes of people like a pyramid for diffrent classes. Most of the population was made up of the third party which was the regular people like the middle class and the lower class. Which was mostly the working class like the farmer,merchants,etc. The lower class didn't like the upper classes too much because they got most of the good things.

This was because of the fact that they had to pay no tax while the third class had to pay basically all of it.The farmers had to do a lot of the labor because they had to supplie the food.
The farmers are the ones that are actually carring France on there back because if they stop working France. They did not have enough to live yet the still had to pay taxes and feudal dues. The third estate represents the rich in France because the majority was third estate. The third estate would be most influenced by his words.

The Enlightment

According to the declaration of independence, we are all the same because there isn't a difference from any man even from skin or race. Jefferson talks about that we have the right to speak or in other words freedom of speech which everyone in America has the right to have. Freedom of speech is used in debates,strikes and speeches. I think the even though the government is suppose get and get permission from the people they still try to control stuff like war. "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed", this quote means that they derive there power from the people.
We are suppose to be the government the people are suppose ton run it but we only have the power to vote.. We are a democracy which as very good advantages to everyday living.

Heliocentrisim and Geocentrisim

Heliocentrisim was one of many theorys to come out about the solar system. It was founded by a famous scicentist named Galileo he was a star gazer and he studied astronomy. Then one day he was looking at the solar system and saw that the earth wasnt the center of the system but then sun was and the source of life. Gencentrisim was the first to come of all theories it was said that the earth was the center of the universe and since earth. Galileo was the also it came out of the scientific revoluition.

He arrived in Rome on 13 February 1633, and was put in the Tuscan embassy. He was sent to the Holy Office and first interrogated on 12 April 1633, sent back to the Tuscan embassy on April 30, and called in again and captured on May 10 and June 21. While held in the Holy Office, Galileo was put in apartments usually occupied by Inquisition officials, rather than prison cells. He was in trial because he believed that the earth was revoling around the sun and that earth wasnt the center of thge earth.

The chatholic church believed that since earth was the brith of man they thought that the earth was the center of the universe and that planets revoled around the erath and Galileo proved them wrong. The church was angry and sent him under arrest for the rest of his life. Lucky he wasnt put to death as that the church wanted him to be.

Evolution Vs Creationism

Evolution was a theory form charles darwin a famous sciencetist. He was a famous exploer as well because he explored the islands. He studied birds and there finches and found out that the birds were from the same ancestory and saw that they adapted to there enviroment over a long period of time. Charles belivied the same with humans that what if we "Man" was once a primate or a fish that evoled into a walking creature. The promblem with this is that it is just a theory and has never been proven but there is some evidence but not hard evidence which can relate us to lower forms of speices.

Creationism is not a theory but a belief in that god made humans and the earth. That he created all life in the entire universe within 7 days. many people belivie in creationism and the three major religions are Islam, Christainity and Jews. They all believe that we are decendants of Adam and Eve and that they were the first humans in the world. High priest and the pope believe in this very strongly. when they heard Darwins theory they believed that he was a spwan of the satan and thought that he was trying to make people think that god wasnt real.

I believe in creationism because I im a muslim I believe that we are decendants of Adam and Eve. I think that it is not wrong to learn about Darwins theory but i dont believe in it. I think that Darwin did his reseach and was a very good sciencetist. There is some reason to believe that we evoled from a lower form of speices but not enough to prove it.
